This short trek near Thimphu passes through numerous picturesque high altitude lakes. It is a moderate trek with short trekking days but with few steep climbs.
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport (PBH), you will be greeted by your private guide and driver. The journey begins with a scenic drive to the capital city of Thimphu (approx. 1.5 hours).

Unique Experience: Instead of a standard check-in, you'll be taken to a private, traditional Bhutanese farmhouse for a specially prepared "welcome lunch." This allows you to taste authentic cuisine and experience local hospitality in an exclusive setting.
Check into your luxury lodge, such as the Six Senses Thimphu or Amankora Thimphu. After a brief rest, visit the majestic Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan's government and the King's office. Your guide will arrange for a special viewing of the flag ceremony.

Begin the day with a visit to the Buddha Dordenma, a colossal bronze statue of Buddha offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the Thimphu Valley. This is followed by a private guided meditation session at a secluded monastery, providing a moment of peace and reflection.
One of the largest Buddha statues in the world, the Buddha Dordenma is a majestic statue that overlooks the Thimphu Valley. It is a significant religious and cultural symbol, representing peace, happiness, and prosperity.
Unique Experience: Participate in a private Bhutanese cooking class with a local chef. You will learn to prepare traditional dishes like Ema Datshi (chili and cheese stew) and Phaksha Paa (pork stew). You will then enjoy the dishes you prepared for lunch.
Drive for about 5 hours to Gangtey. En route cross Dochu-la pass (3,088m) and drive by Wangduephodrang Dzong. Overnight at camp/farm house, Gangtey.
Dochula Pass is one of the most breathtaking and memorable spots in all of Bhutan.
The trail winds gradually upwards through meadows and fields, ascending to Tsele-la pass (3 ,400m) where we stop for lunch. The trail then descends gradually for some time through forests of junipers, bamboo, magnolias and rhododendrons. After a last short climb, we reach Gogona village. The people of Gogona were originally nomads and they speak a language called Bjopkha (language of nomads).
Overnight camp.
The trail winds up gently above Gogona village, climbing into a forest of firs, oak, spruce, rhododendron, cypress and junipers. A long and gradual climb takes us up to Shobju-la pass (3,400m). The path leads down to the wide valley of Khotokha, where the people of Sha (a region of ngduephodrang district) come in summer to graze their animals.
Overnight camp.
A short ascent takes us to a pass, from which the path descends steeply through ever- changing vegetation till finally reaching the bridge at Wangduephodrang. The trek ends here.

After exploring the attractive Wangduephodrang and Punakha valleys, we drive to Thimphu.
Again sightseeing in Thimphu, including visits to the following as time permits: Folk Heritage and National Textile Museums; Handicrafts Emporium; papermaking factory; market. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.
Morning drive up to the base camp of Paro Taktsang is the sacred Buddhist site perched on a cliffside in the upper Paro Valley. Also known as Tiger’s Nest, according to legend, the Guru Rinpoche - who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan - meditated at the site in the 8th century, riding on the back of a tigress.
This sacred monastery clings to a cliff 900 meters above the Paro valley. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress in the 8th century.
Begin your hike to Tiger's Nest, a challenging yet rewarding trek that takes you through pine forests and along rocky paths. Along the way, marvel at panoramic views of the Paro valley below and the surrounding Himalayan mountains.
Visit Ta Dzong, built in 1651 as a watchtower and in 1968 inaugurated as Bhutan’s National Museum. The collection includes art, relics, religious thangkha paintings, postage stamps, coins and handicrafts, as well as a small natural history collection. Then walk down a short hillside trail to visit Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), built in 1646, and now housing the offices of the district administration and Paro’s monk body. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
Perched on top of a hill overlooking Paro Valley, the museum boasts a wide collection of treasures and artifacts reflecting Bhutan's mythical history.
